American Idol 8 - Top 4 Perform

Tonight's theme is Rock night, a very good genre for all the contestants left. Should be very interesting, as Mar and I have pretty high expectations. Ryan Seacrest shows us that the stage collapsed just moments before airing, not giving the contestants a chance for a proper run through. A very cliche "The show must go on" followed.

Here we go with our Top 4. Adam is looking scary and extreme and I'm nervous he's going to come on stage with a whip and chain during his performance. Slash is the mentor this week, a true Rock icon. I truly still don't know what his FACE looks like. In fact, I'm looking forward to seeing what he'll be wearing...ah, ok. Same thing he wore in 1994.

Adam goes first with "Whole Lotta Love," by Led Zeppelin. I mean, look - I may have nightmares about him tonight, but the fact remains that THIS is his forte. Mar and I feel like we're at a rock concert, complete with flames in the background a flamer on stage. I mean, I think there was just a LOT to take in. This is the Adam that Randy loves. A true rock star. Kara thinks that Adam is a ROCK GOD. She's so passionate about it, and her outfit matches the theme week. Love it! Paula says, "A whole lot of love?? You're a whole lot of perfect!" Thanks, Paula. This is Simon's favorite performance and thinks that none of the contestants remaining can top that. Adam and Ryan are the same color. Marissa just stated - and I quote,"If Adam doesn't win, I'll cut my hair like that." 8:48pm.

Allison is up next with Janis Joplin's "Crybaby." We think this could make her break her. "Right here, dawg." Her hair is crazy. We find out that Adam has a personal hair stylist. That he's used for two years. Are.you.serious? I'm on the fence about Allison - not her SINGING, but her personality. I'm just not feeling her as a person. I'm getting chills from her performance, or maybe because it's cold in my apartment. No, really - her voice pierces through my pores. Overall, I thought it was ok. Randy didn't like the song choice and wanted something with a little more melody. Kara thinks that Janis, bluesy rock, is the best song genre for her. She also thinks that Allison seems nervous. Paula thinks Allison could play Janis Joplin in a movie, which might make the character from 30 Rock rather upset. Simon thought it was really good, aside from a lack of originality. She's standing up to Simon and is a little pissed after his "You should just beg at this point" comment. She is a little immature.

TWIST!! "Renegade" by Danny and Kris -- a duet! Between the two of them, side to side, I really enjoy Kris Allen's voice more. "His hair is slick, his pants are tight, his balls are gigantic!!!" - shout out to the Flock. This is a FANTASTIC duet. I'm completely entertained. I think Gokey sounds a bit like he's shouting. I love that these two are friends! American Idol is so GREAT! Randy loved the harmony of the song, Kara basically called them wussies and the opposite of the meaning of "renegade." Simon just takes a giant shit on Kris's face by providing only ONE piece of feedback: Danny was better than Kris. I mean, did you have to go there?

Kris Allen's solo is next and I can't imagine how much his ego is blown right now. He's going to work doubly hard to impress Simon and I'll only see nervousness now! He is singing the Beatles' "Come Together." He is SO cute with his personality! He reminds Marissa of Jay Levine with his witty comments. Here we go -- I like it a lot! I'm partial to this kind of soothing rock, as opposed to Adam's screeching. But, that's just me. I realize that not everyone will feel that way. For instance, Marissa thinks it's a bit monotonous...and though I can see that completely, I just enjoy it. He's hot. Randy realizes hes not this big Rocker, but liked that he picked a song he could still be himself with - I agree. Kara didn't like the performance and Paula doesn't make sense and Kris knows it doesn't even matter what she says. The key judges this year are Kara and Simon, let's get serious. Simon didn't like that much and said it's like eating ice for lunch. It leaves you with nothing to remember after this. Simon thought it was a big of Jam Session.

I have thoughts here: It's rock week, I GET IT. However, not everyone who is left is ROCK - so they should be judged on their performance VOCALLY, rather than how they fit into the GENRE. I mean, am I wrong here? Yes, Kris is a softer side of Rock - so embrace that while you judge. It's just not fair.

Danny Gokey is up next with Aerosmith's "Dream On." Marissa thinks that Danny sounds like a dying animal during that high note in his audition with Slash. New Glasses! He's trying way to hard to be a deep rocker. Um, what's with the "doo doo doo" in the middle of that? This is ROCK not R&B! You know what? I'm just not sure how to react. That was awful at the end. Randy thought it was alright and gave him an A+ for a valliant effort. I mean this was DEFINITELY worse than Kris Allen. Kara didn't like it all that much, but did like the risk he took. Paula doesn't think this was the right song and then rallies the audience to cheer for him. Simon totally agreed with me about watching a horror movie during that last note. He also says that he'll be safe - meaning Kris Allen gets voted off. I mean, I thought it was really bad. Like, doesn't deserve to stay - bad.

You know what? I'm just really upset Matt Giraud isn't performing tonight - and that he's like, not left. I don't really have a passion for anyone else that's left and that really disappoints me.

Saving the best for last, we're now about to watch Adam and Allison perform their duet, "Slow Ride." I really enjoyed Renegade more, seriously. This song is borrrrring. I'm just not into how I think that they think they're the shit. From their attitudes their their outfits. I mean, grunge boots, really? Adam has nicer legs than I do. Randy likes these seasoned rock stars. He says they should make a duet together, to which Adam nods in agreement.

What do you think???
