Now, with upfronts upon us, we get a glimpse into what the next season of television holds for us.
- ABC canceled the sitcom "Samantha Who?" after two seasons - due to budgets. Poor Christina Applegate, I really dig her.
- MTV comes out with a new show, 16 & Pregnant, beginning on June 11th at 10pm. The series follows the lives of pregnant teenagers as they become young parents - all the while juggling relationships, finances, school and other responsibilities. Honestly, I can't believe this is a show. MTV used to be about music videos, yes in the 80's and early 90's - but THIS?? Having a show about being 16 and pregnant is beyond. On a slightly positive note, MTV is partnering with the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, since statistics show that three out of ten girls will become pregnant before they turn 20. Dear teenagers: Use condoms. Get on the pill. Use a nuvaring.
- As most of you know, Conan O'Brien is taking over as the host of NBC's The Tonight Show. The show's very first guest will be Will Ferrell, who will also be Conan's LAST guest in New York...you see how they did that?
- Glee - Comedy musical series that seems to be akin to The Breakfast Club. There will be a preview tonight after American Idol, and at the risk of liking it and adding yet another TV show to my DVR, I think I'll be watching it.
- The Cleveland Show - Spinoff of the Family Guy! Obvi OBVI watching this!!
- Season eight of 24 returns next year with a two-night, four-hour premiere on January 17th at 9pm. I didn't watch the last two weeks yet (last night being the finale) -- but I guess I can deduce that Jack Bauer lives...even though he has a deadly radiation poisoning? Cool. He's tougher than Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris combined.
- Other shows returning: American Dad, American Idol, America's Most Wanted, Bones, Cops, Dollhouse, Family Guy, Fringe, Hell's Kitchen, House, Kitchen Nightmares, Lie to Me, The Simpsons and 'Til Death
And that's what's up.
