American Idol 8 - Top 3 Perform

During the 225 celebration tonight, honored guests include Brianne DeLucca ne Bartlett and Jillian Riegger.
Tonight, the contestants have to sing the judges choices in round one and follow up with a second song of their own choosing. Truly, the contestants are all good, with their own style: Danny is soulful, Adam is Rock and Kris is more contemporary.
Paula chooses Danny's song, "Dance Little Sister," and everyone in my apartment has no clue what the song is. Clearly, when you don't know the song, it's not memorable, no matter how good the performance is. I'm not entirely sure why Paula picked this song. Randy thought he had great energy and that it was a dope performance. Kara didn't like the gyration in his dance moves, but Paula is a choreographer and thought it was really good. Apparently, everyone has a magical voice for Paula. Simon thought the dancing was desperate and the song choice was bad. I mean, thanks for the opinion, Simon - but Paula was the one who chose it. Danny shouldn't be penalized for that.

Kris Allen sings "Apologize," chosen by Kara and Randy and personally, I think he does a fantastic job. I enjoyed the arrangement and the sweet, soft melody. I don't know if it was a combination of Merlot, Pinot Noir and meatballs, but he really had me in TEARS during this performance. Brianne thinks, "He slaughtered it!!!" Randy agreed, but Kara didn't think he hit it out of the ballpark. She thinks that the arrangement should have been with a guitar to change it up, but you know what? Kris always does it with a guitar! So, seeing him behind a piano was pleasant. Paula made no sense, as she complimented Kris for a "bum note" that she was proud of him for. Simon called her out on it, obviously.
Simon chooses "One Love" for Adam Lambert - he does a really good job -- I'm over him.

Danny Gokey chooses "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker. Haha. Cocker. His voice is a bit deep, a bit scratchy but I have to say that I'm into it! Randy liked the arrangement and thinks Danny can "really, REALLY, REALLY sing." Kara thinks the performance is stunning. Paula is left breathless, though it could be a side effect from the vicodin. Simon liked the song, didn't like the arrangement but thought it was a vocal masterclass. Danny seems humbled and as happy as a pig in shit.

Kris is singing "Heartless" by Kanye West and we're all legitametely nervous. It's either a GO or a NO. I absolutely love the arrangement. We're all feelin' the song and his style. I mean, think about it -- this was HIS choice, and he went with Kanye West to arrange in such a great way -- THAT'S who I want as my next American Idol. It's pleasant and it's BRILLIANT. Jillian thinks that it needs to be grungy and rap -- which is definitely something to think about. Once you KNOW a song a certain way, it's hard to hear a different arrangement. Let's see what the judges think: Randy thinks it's better than the Fray and better than Kanye. Kara thinks it was bold and brilliant. Brianne wants to kiss him, sorry Shane! Paula thinks he's the bravest artist because he sang a song about Simon Cowell - cut to Simon rolling his eyes. Simon thought the first was a lame song choice and he had written him out of the competition. However, after the second performance, he's completely changed his mind. OBVI.

Adam Lambert is up next singing Aerosmith's "Cryin," which happens to be a "bad luck song" for me. (If you know me, this won't be a surprise.) You know, there's no denying that he has a fabulous voice. Listen, Adam - we're OVER your screaming. BEYOND. It NEEDS TO STOP. It's NOT okay!!!!!! Would you people listen to this on Z100?? I think his voice is great - but the screeching really don't do anything for him....personally. Song choice, perhaps not the best. Randy thinks he's the best singer the American Idol stage has seen. Kara says we'll see him at the finals. Paula thinks he's flying so high in the sky that he should be collecting frequent flyer miles. Um, Paula ... how high in the sky are you?? Simon grounds everyone and says that people shouldn't necessarily assume he's making it to the next round -- and that people should be voting based on talent.

In my opinion, the top 2 should be Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Aaaaaaand then I want Kris to win -- those are my thoughts.

Signing off - Team Kris Allen

  1. Adam Lambert was just TERRIBLE last night. I have become so frustrated that I am no longer a fan of Idol. I am not watching this season or the next seasons. He was so bad at One and DEEE-stroyed cryin by aerosmith. I think its all fixed and I think the judges are being totally unfair and biased. All that BS about how he has to be in the final...gimme a damn break!
