RIP - American Idol Hopeful, Alexis Cohen, Passes Away

Alexis Cohen, a past American Idol contestant, was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday in Seaside Heights.

Daniel Bark has been charged with leaving the scene of Saturday's accident that killed Cohen, 25, of Allentown, Pa. Superior Court Judge Wendell E. Daniels said today he expects additional charges of aggravated manslaughter, death by auto and eluding to be added to the list.

Cohen's mother, Mindy Dallow, has said her daughter was walking to get something to eat when she was struck. Two passers-by found her body on Bay Boulevard near Dupont Avenue around 4 a.m.She was pronounced dead at 6:35 a.m. at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Cohen auditioned twice for American Idol as a singer and was rejected both times. Her mother has said Cohen had auditioned a third time in June and was preparing for a call-back audition.

I have to tell you, this story really makes me upset. Sure, there are hit-and-runs on a daily basis, and that's just a shitty shitty crime. Add that to the fact that I was this girl's fan - and well, it sort of just personalizes the tragedy a bit more.

I feel bad - wonder if American Idol will do an "In Memory of" piece, since she's auditioned a third time this summer...
