Suspicious White Van in Times Square

So I'm watching the news and a breaking story comes on about a white van that has been parked on 47th and Broadway -- for two whole days. I mean, I think people need to chill out. There are robotic machines going up to the van to check it out and all the surrounding streets have been closed.

The thing is, there is no reason this van is suspicious except for the fact that it's been parked there for two days. I don't get it. There are plenty of streets all over New York City, where I'm sure cars have been parked for even MORE than two days...why this van?

Are there not enough murders/robberies/drug dealings going on? Do these cops have nothing better to do? I'm really just annoyed with this "breaking news" story.

  1. i must say i dont agree with you at all on this. i predict you would be the same person slaying the NYPD if there was something in the van and it killed hundreds of people. We just need to accept the fact that these are the times we live in, and this monster was created by the events of 9/11 and the recent airline scare. I think we can agree that it is always better to act then to react.

  2. Couldn't agree more! These are the times we live in, and I would rather NYPD play it safe, rather than sorry. Tomorrow will be a crazy time in Times Square, who knows what could happen. There is no reason to "chill out" when THOUSANDS of human lives will be there tomorrow night.

  4. "This could be anything" (Fox News). Good, ANYTHING, now get on with it. This is NOTHING right now.

  5. I take the other posters' points, however (and maybe I'm just missing Zlata's point, in which case, Zeef, I apologize) ... yes, the cops should be checking it out, sniffing it for bombs, whatever. But it's not NEWS ... not yet. If they find something, then it's news. But it's not news yet. It's a van.
