Grandmother Sells Baby for $30,000

In absolutely  normal news, a Florida woman was charged with trying to sell her infant son in order to pay for a new car.  This is straight up a true story.  I saw it on the 11pm broadcast Tuesday night.

This undated image provided by the Volusia County Sheriff shows the booking photo for Patty Bigbee the Florida woman and her boyfriend who have been charged with trying to sell her infant grandson for $30,000. Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents arrested 45-year-old Patty Bigbee and 42-year-old Lawrence Works on Friday in Daytona Beach after they met with an agent posing as a buyer. Both were charged with illegal sale or surrender of a child, and Bigbee was also charged with communication fraud. (AP Photo/Volusia County Sheriff)

This baby’s grandmother brokered a deal initially at $75K, but agreed to cut the price to $30K when the prospective buyer of the baby couldn’t get a bank loan for the first amount.

The baby’s mother, Stephanie Bigbee Flemming, 22, of Bradenton, Florida was going to receive $9K out of the deal.  Again, I’m not lying. THIS is news. The money was going to go towards the purchase of a new car and court costs for a previous probation violation.

The grandmother, Patty Bigbee, 45, was also arrested with her boyfriend, Lawrence Works, 42, both of Holly Hill, Florida.

How’d they get caught?  A family member with a head on their shoulders alerted the police during the initial negotiations.  Bigbee and Works were arrested when they collected a $30K check and HANDED OVER THE BABY TO AN UNDERCOVER AGENT IN A PARKINGLOT.  OK?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
