Thai Room in West Palm Beach

I recently had the pleasure of trying the newest of hidden gems here in Palm Beach - The Thai Room. The Florida eatery is owned by local residents Ken and Patty Ekkhot and was recently opened at the end of May. The authentic Thai dishes, along with the couples' welcoming demeanor, makes this a MUST-GO-TO restaurant for any Thai-lovers.

The atmosphere, while small and cozy, boasts nicely spaced wooden tables and chairs, as overhead Thai music inspires relaxation and culinary delight. The owners are there everyday, cooking and serving up their creative menu offerings. Dedicated to using fresh ingredients and hand-me-down authentic recipes, Ken and Patty entice guests with their  made to order dishes. Where else can you find a mom (Patty's) who comes in every day to create all the sauces from scratch? Try the plum sauce, peanut sauce, ponzu sauce (my favorite!), sweet and sour sauce and garlic sauce - again, all made daily and from scratch!

Here are some of my personal favorite menu standouts: Tom Kha Gai, crispy calamari with plum sauce and papaya salad. For entrees, check out Three Musketeers (sauteed chicken, beef and pork, served on a bed of veggies and topped with sizzling Thai garlic sauce), Lobster Curry (broiled lobster tail, broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers, and squash, in a sauce of red curry paste and coconut milk); Crispy Duck (deep-fried, battered half-duck, served with steamed broccoli and carrots, with a sweet black been sauce on the side); and Shrimp Fuji (grilled jumbo shrimp, served on a bed of veggies, with a sizzling Thai chili sauce).

Additionally, diners can order a wide array of stir-fried dishes, by choosing chicken, beef, pork, tofu, veggies, shrimp, squid, or scallops (or a combo) and then choosing one of eight different sauces (including garlic, basil, ginger, sweet and sour, cashew nuts and soy sauce, or oyster sauce) or choosing one of four curry sauces (Panang, red, green or Massaman). There are also eleven enticing noodle dishes -- including Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles -- on the menu, and all of these can also be enhanced with chicken, beef, pork, tofu, vegetables, shrimp, squid, scallops, or a seafood combo. All dishes come with diners' choice of white or brown rice.
Sweet treats, for dessert, provide the perfect finale to any meal, and include fried bananas (with or without ice cream); fried vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup; sticky rice topped with vanilla or chocolate ice cream; or rainbow sherbet.

The Thai Room Restaurant is located in the Lake Point Center (anchored by the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at the northeast corner of Jog Road) at 6901 Okeechobee Boulevard, Unit # D-15, in West Palm Beach, Florida. The restaurant is open for lunch, dinner, and small bites daily; hours are 11:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 12:00 noon - 10:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Please phone the restaurant, at 561.689.1830, for reservations, take-out items, or additional information.www.thairoomwpb.com. Ken and Patty plan to offer delivery to the surrounding neighborhood, for dinner, in the near future.
