American Idol 8 - Round 3

Von Smith sings "You're All I Need." Do you want to know I need Von? I need for you to get off stage, now (as paraphrased by Alison Leigh Stanley.) I'm very surprised that Randy Jackson liked this. My roommates and I are really dumbfounded right now. Paula says that he knows when to pull back and when to push forward....from experience?? It's really funny when contestants smile into the camera and do all these funny faces with their affiliated number. In fact, it's even funnier when they are looking into the wrong camera and your roommate taunts, "Uhhh, camera is over here loser!"

Taylor Vaifuna sings "If I Ain't Got You" - really hard song. I think she's over performing and it's being dragged out. I don't really feel the passion. Marissa and Alison's thoughts: "Over this. It's flat. I'm Bored. It sucked." Marissa also wants to know if Kara is doing the same drugs that Paula's doing. I mean really, who cares what Taylor is like when she goes shopping. Simon concurs, as he just said that whilst I was typing.

Alex Wagner-Trugman is going to sing "I Guess It's Why They Call It the Blues." Alison can't take him seriously and Marissa thinks he has yet to hit puberty. Did he really just drop the mic stand? I can't handle this. It's karaoke. Paula, your jokes don't make sense: "Can I get a refund for sitting next to you?" I mean, shut the fuck up. I actually feel really bad for him. I almost cried because he looks so innocent and cute and everyone was patronizing him -- like Ryan knocking over the mic stand.

Arianna Asfar - aka Tina Iglesias - will be singing "The Winner Takes It All" by ABBA. This is a horrible song choice for her. She's young and adorable and shouldn't be singing this Broadway tune from the 70's. Christina Aguilera would have been more appropriate, says Alison. Great voice though, so we'll see what happens. So far, my vote is for her to go through. Paula is such a martyr.

Ju'not Joyner sings "Hey There Deliliah" - peculiar song choice for him. He actually looks like a bigger and fatter Alfonso Ribero from Will Smith. This is a really really bad song for him. He should have sang another song with more UMPH and not try to create a soulful ballad out of this.
"Ju'not ...Ju-not that good." - Marissa. Paula's blingin' watch is ridiculous. I mean, I get it - his voice is really good but it was just really boring.

Kristen McNamara looks like Mena Suvari meets Anna Farris and purple hair or not, she is really gorgeous. She's singing "Give Me One Reason" and I absolutely love it. I love the twist on the song and I think she has amazing vocals. My one critique is her outfit. I don't think pink and red should ever go together. Aside from that, she needs an edgier look. I predict that she makes it through. I hate that the judges are saying that she doesn't know who she is. I mean, she KNOWS who she is -- she is who she came in as the FIRST day, but you people told her that her image needs change, so that's what she did. Now, it's not okay for you. Like, get over it. Her voice is good. She's pretty. That's what's up. I want her to make it.

Nathaniel Marshall - You look like Dwayne or Wayne or whatever from The Wonder Years. He's singing "I Would Do Anything For Love" and I'm not really sure how to take it. I'm seriously speechless. I think his voice is good, but I don't want to hear his lisp during his singing. I also don't want him to run around the stage jamming out like this is a fun song because it's not. Simon is so right - he needs to make a "keep fit" video. Aerobics. I'm laughing. His grandma is adorbs.

Felicia Barton sings "No One" and is a little bit pitchy. She's the girl who got brought back when that other one got disqualified for whatever reason. "Just cause your name is Felicia doesn't mean you should sing Alicia," says Alison. I'm into the edginess of this song - though my roommates do not agree. Maybe it's because I really love this song (it's going to be my wedding song, actually.) Let's see what the judges have to say. I totally agree with them - especially Kara. She looks good, she has good style and you really do NOTICE her for the first time tonight.

Scott McIntyre. Well, so far we already have two jokes out here in 225. First of all, there is only enough room in America for one blind singer at a time. Ray Charles is dead - and Stevie Wonder is the only blind singer right now. When Steveie dies, Scott can have a shot at being famous. Furthermore, SNL could have a field day with a skit starring Will Ferrell. Get on that, Lorne Michaels. Oh, ok back to the actual critique. He has a great voice, but I hated the song choice. Do you think that he's getting such great reviews because he's blind? Do you think there's a pity sense here?

Kendall Beard - you're adorable. She'll be singing "This One's For the Girls" by Martina McBride. She has a good voice, but I'm just not in the mood for another country singer. I'd like to hear her sing something else, but it probably wouldn't be the right fit for her. GREAT Outfit. Seriously, I'm ALWAYS on par with Simon. It was good yea, but not my cup of tea. I would understand if she makes it through, but don't mind if she didn't.

Jorge Nunez is scary. I didn't like him the beginning and I don't know if I'm going to like him now. Let's see. He's singing "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" by Elton John. Hmm, it's pretty good actually. I just can't get over how much I didn't like him in the beginning. I guess I wouldn't be so upset if he went through - he's so emotional and I dig that about him.

Lil' Rounds is singing Mary J "Be With Out You" - great song choice for her. She's sooo tiny around the waist and then a big round rump! I love it. I guess that's why they call her Lil' Rounds, huh? She does a pretty good performance - a little iffy in the beginning, but picking it up in the end. Let's see what the judges have to say. They LOVE her. Good for her man!!!

I think the third group is the best by far. My votes go to (in no particular order): Arianna Asfar, Kristen McNamara, Nathanial Marshall, Felicia Barton, Kendall Beard and Lil' Rounds.

Those are my thoughts.

  1. "The Winner Takes it All" is an ABBA classic - not a 70s Broadway tune.
