Showdown between Kris Allen and Adam Lambert

Ok guys. Here we are. The second to last episode of the eighth season of American Idol. I can't believe we're here - I feel very upset about this. I just LOVE this show and want it to go on forever.
Here we go folks: The show starts off with some intense shots of both Kris and Adam's journeys - even as far back to their initial audition interview tapes. I really enjoyed the way they did that.
Ryan introduces the show, "Tonight it is the battle between the acoustic rocker vs. the glam rocker. Conway vs. California. The guy next door versus the guy liner. It all comes down to Kris and Adam."
Simon really brought it tonight with a snazzy little buttoned shirt and blazer number. Adam and Kris both come down the stairs in their leather jackets. Kris is SO freakin' adorable. Kris won a coin toss and is choosing to go second. Three songs: Favorite song from season, creator Simon Fuller's choice, single co-written by Kara D. Ryan warns America that if we're setting our DVRs for tomorrow's two hour finale show, we should allow it to go over some minutes. This is funny, considering the show is known for cutting off during the most inopportune times -- cut to: "The winner of American Idol is ... David...." while America screamed "David who???? Archuletta or Cook?!?!!?"

Adam kicks it off with "Mad World." Perhaps "Tracks of My Tears" would have been better? He looks like a scary vampire a little bit, no? I think the latter song would have been a better option, especially to appeal to a different target audience. That is not to say, however, that his performance is amazing. The passion, power and control of his voice is really uncomprable. The crowd is pleased and Randy goes first. He loves that he sang something from the season (Um, hi - he's supposed to.) Kara is happy he chose that song and says he's an incredible singer and an amazing artist. Paula is proud of AdamHI MATT GIRAUDDDDDDDDD. She says this is his moment - she's really too tan, by the way. Simon is rolling his eyes, as Kara meets his to share a chuckle. Dapper Simon thought it was a little bit overtheatrical and a bit like Phantom of the Opera. I mean, honestly - I think the show started slow because of this boring song.

Kris Allen is up! He is SO cute - he gave his mom coupons to have him sing for her birthday!! I mean, how cute is he? Kris's personal pick is "Ain't No Sunshine." I feel like he looks like John Bellavia, well - minus the head - but definitely an outfit he'd pick -- I digress. This is a GREAT performance! I just love to look at him - he's SO handsome and is incredibly engaging with his passion. The performance is absolutely flawless. Like, flawless. I would buy his album tonight, dawg. Randy's up. He loves what kind of artist he is, what kind of record he would make. He says it's his best performance. Kara says that Kris Allen doesn't MOVE you - there's something wrong with you. She says he's engaging - which is what I said too! Paula says --- I really don't know what she's saying, really. Like, at all. Simon reminds everyone it's a competition. He wasn't sure if AMerica made the right choice last week, but takes it back after this performance. I mean, he was SO SO SO SO good!!!

Simon calls a winner of the round -- and it's Kris Allen!!

Simon Fuller chooses "Change is Gonna Come" for Adam Lambert. He looks dapper in his suit - a little tamer. He starts off strong, and quickly turns to a soulful sound. I mean really, he's capable of wearing any hat. You know what? You know how people were sick of Blake Lewis beatboxing in every song? Well I appreciated that about him. Here with Adam - it's like you appreciate his screaming-sense of singing -- or you hate it and it bothers you. Then again, I'm a little bit of both. I appreciate that he CAN do that -- but I'm over it '09. Randy says he showed the real reason he's here is because Adam can sing his face long. HI MATT GIRUAAAADDDDDDDD Kara says that was his best performance since the beginning of this competition. Paula says that is the best she's every heard him sing - she's in awe of his performance and says he will be iconic. Simon's up and tells him he's 100% back in the game.
HI KATIE HOLMES AND SURI!

Simon Fuller chooses "What's Going On?" for Kris. He definitely changed it up and makes it his own. Complete with guitar and bongos - the song is something I want to listen to in a room filled in a cloud of smoke. Sometimes I don't think he annunciates too well. I also think Simon will dislike the guitar aspect of the show. He's definitely going to say that Adam wins. I mean, the two of them are in completely different ballparks, you know? They are both good but I almost feel like it's comparing apples to oranges with the two of them. Randy thought the song choice was a little light for him. But, I mean - he didn't choose the song - so I dont' get why he's getting hatin'. Kara had a really great commentary for Kris. She appreciated Fuller's choice, since Kris could deliver the message. Paula is high and Simon doesn't think he grab hold of the song - and that it was too laidback for this point in the competition. I guess I'm wondering what he could have done differently considering he didn't even choose the song! He shouldn't be penalized for the song being soft because it IS soft.
Simon says a million percent Adam for Round 2.

1 to 1 competition!!!
And here's what REALLY matters -- what song do you want to hear on Z100 over and over again??? Now they're singing their SINGLE, should they win.

The song sucks, Adam is not doing a good job - it's like, really bad. This is his worst performance EVER. Of ALL TIME. This is just SO SO SO BAD. I'm borderline embarrassed for him. I feel like he's pissed he has to sing this crap. The truth is, Adam can't be the next American Idol. He needs a band. He needs to be the next Aerosmith. Randy is up first (Kara gives a sympathy clap.) Not one of his favorite performance and the ever-famous "It was just aight for me dawg." Kara commends Adam on a job well done. Paula is talking as if she's signing Adam's yearbook. Simon's up next and I want him to bash him. Not judging song. Judging Adam. That's exactly what it should be about. He says Adam is a star and he means that.

Kris Allen with the same song - No Boundaries. WHICH WAY DO YOU WANT TO HEAR IT OVER AND OVER???? I mean, you have to take into consideration what Kara said -- he really knows how to deliver a message. I think he's trying too hard, though. It's quite obvious. HOWEVER, I will say that I think I prefer the song be on repeat with Kris Allen singing it, then Adam.
Honestly, this song fucking blows. I would turn off either one of them singing this. Randy says he's an amazing competitor and the song fits his voice better than for Adam. I agree. Kara thinks the song was too high for Kris. She thinks people should vote on the season. Paula is on crack. Simon thinks the highlight was his first song. And watching his performances over the season has been a great experience.

So for me, the show is tied. Neither of them performed the last round well - they were on par as both sucking. Kris won the first round and Adam won the second.

I'm gonna go vote.

Signing off - Team Kris Allen
